An adapted screenplay is a screenplay that is based on pre-existing material. It is adapted from another source. The sources in which the screenplay is adapted from can range greatly. They can be anything from a novel, any other type of book, a memoir, articles, short stories, TV series, and even other films.
We tend not to talk too much about how to be original in the screenwriter training industry. When we do, it tends to be to denigrate it as an idea. The screenwriter training industry is largely about us encouraging competence, which is not a bad thing. Far too many people come into the industry with no real idea of what a script is... What it is for. How a film is made or, how to tell a story cinematically. Giving people the tools to make them more competent is a noble thing to undertake.

I can help you with any step along the way. Over the past two decades, I’ve written, edited, designed or published over 135 scripts and screenplays, and much more.
DIALOGUE PUNCH UP
Comedy is really not something you can teach. There are books that give particular rules that might help, but it usually takes a certain personality that begins at childhood.
That said, instead of inserting "jokes" just for a cheap laugh, your laughs comes from the situations your characters are going through.
For any novel to truly connect with readers, the author needs to pay close attention to character development. Even if you’re writing an action-packed, plot-driven book where the characters are robots, it’s the human element that will resonate with readers.
PAGE 1 REWRITE
Your script sucks. And? Happens to everyone, chief. But you are a screenwriter. You don’t go into the sun without essentials – sunscreen, towel, water, personal fan, sunglasses, hat, etc. And you don’t write a script without them either. Cry or drink, scream, eat a hot fudge sundae, whatever you need, but don’t take your toys and go home. You will survive a page one rewrite by having your essentials and sticking to them. So gather your outline, character bios, notes, index cards and whatever extra sumthin’-sumthin’ you need to get this draft done.
